3. DESCRIPTION<\/h4>\n
Finnsementti, A CRH company, is a Finnish manufacturer of cement. Harnessing our century-long experience, we produce consistently superior cement and create jobs within our industry. The majority of Finland\u2019s cement offering is produced at Finnsementti\u2019s plants in Parainen and Lappeenranta, in addition to which the company has eight terminals in Kirkkonummi, Koverhar, Mariehamn, Oulu, Jakobstad, Pori, Raahe and Vasa. In addition to cement, our offering includes various concrete additives, admixtures and special aggregates.<\/p>\n
4. CHALLENGE<\/h4>\n
In any manufacturing and production plant safety is of utmost importance to protect workers by preventing industrial accidents, injuries, illness and deaths. Additionally, fewer accidents leads to fewer absences due to sick leave and\u00a0 investments in safety also improve the efficiency of production plants.<\/p>\n
The Task Risk Assessment (TRA) is currently utilized as a tool to detect any risk of the different activities at the production plant. TRA encompasses all activities involved in identifying hazards and evaluating dangers to make certain that employees do not run risks, nor the environment. TRA are consistently controlled within an organisation\u2019s risk tolerance, and often used questions are:<\/p>\n

- Hazard \u2013 What can go wrong? and How dangerous is it?<\/li>\n
- Likelihood \u2013 When and How often might it happen?<\/li>\n
- Consequences \u2013 How bad could it be?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Current tools to perform the TRA at Finnsementti are paper forms which workers fill. The advantage of utilizing paper is that it is easy to transfer it through employees across the different shifts. However an aspect to improve in this format is:\u00a0 the TRA general questions might not easily link or connect to the particular area where the workers will laborate. Furthermore, current tools do not easily knit different views of diverse individuals (workers and\u00a0 experts), which might be working together and each one of them detect different hazards. It is relevant to develop a tool that can \u201ccombine\u201d knowledge from different expertises, that is \u201corganic\u201d allowing it to update itself according to the circumstances and it is clearly connected to the workplace, and it is functional.<\/p>\n
The market offers some digital tools, however they are not ideal. We are looking for an \u201corganic\u201d tool that allows us to combine knowledge from different individuals while assessing the TRA, and enables people to link the TRA to the particular context where they will be working.<\/p>\n
Due to the importance of the TRA, in Finnsementti we want to be one step forward and innovate for the safety of tomorrow by conceptualizing a tool that is intuitive to identify risks and register them, enable individuals to analyze particular situations in situ, a tool that is effective, bridges knowledge and supports the workers in their activities. Because Safety is first!<\/p>\n
