Did you know that Scandic has been thinking about sustainability since at least the 90\u2019s?\u00a0Furthermore, since 1993 it is possible to trace concrete actions they had made addressing sustainability (e.g. hang your towel initiative ) . Since then, they are constantly innovating and reflecting how to reduce the environmental impact per guest per night.\u00a0Their sustainability actions contribute to improving the environment, the local communities where their hotels are located while increasing the experience and awareness of their guests. Scandic focus in all these actions while, at the same time, they continue increasing their business. Today Scandic addresses sustainability in a wide range of areas, e.g. water and electricity consumption, food waste, waste recycling and others. <\/p>\n
Engineering development and digital technologies aid industries as Scandic to keep advancing in their sustainability goals. Hence collaboration between different domains, e.g. the Faculty of Technology at Turun yliopisto – University of Turku<\/a> and the leader in the the service sector benefits the common goal of sustainability. By listen to one another synergies are found.<\/p>\n We had an immersive and intense learning experience in this session. I want to thank Scandic Hotels<\/a> for the opportunity, in particular to Pia Lehtil\u00e4<\/a> and Hanna Kokki<\/a> who facilitated the session, and to Ollipekka Valli<\/a> who support us on the planning of the session.
