          Typical hand instrument comprises of handle and two temperature hardened stainless steel tips. LM-Dental handle part is made out of aluminium inner part coated with injection molded silicone part. Silicone part is designed to be comfortable for clinician to use. From end-user (dental professional) perspective LM-Dental hand instruments are comfortable to use and effective in their clinical purpose (\u201cFeel the difference\u201d).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          Environmental aspects (e.g. carbon footprint, recycling) are becoming more and more important feature for dental hand instruments. Customers shall prefer products that have recycling in control and low carbon footprint. To continue to be competitive in this business LM-Dental needs to stay focused on these aspects. Clinical performance of products is essential but if two products are clinically equally good, environmental aspects can be critical decision points in the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

          Some hand instruments have extremely long lifetimes. Restorative or diagnostics instruments can last tens of years of use in optimum cases. However, hand scalers that are used to remove calculus are short lived products in clinical use. Scaling teeth will make standard stainless steel instruments dull quite fast and resharpening is needed after every few patients. Or alternatively, instrument can be coated with hard coating that don\u2019t require frequent sharpening. However, even with coating instruments wore out after around 50 patients and needs to be replaced with new instrument. Old instrument shall be disposed. Lifetime of single hand scaler in practical use can be e.g. six months.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
