The OIL SPILL Incident Management & Communication webinar<\/strong> (9 March 2021) highlighted the importance of good communication between different stakeholders during and after an emergency. Different case examples from Denmark, Finland, and Sweden gave a good picture of the gravity and variety of oil spill incidents and what can be learned from the past accidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kia Friis Petersen<\/strong> from the Danish Civil Protection League<\/strong> was one of the main organizers of the event. The initial plan was to throw a two-day seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark, but the plan had to be changed due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, after the long planning phase, it was great to see it all come together in this webinar. It was great to see that so many people, and not only around the Baltic Sea, were interested in the topic. It shows that OIL SPILL is a needed project and has a lot to give to our region \u2013 and beyond.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, over 60 participants with varying expertise joined the webinar and represented different organizations from rescue services to voluntary organizations, higher education and research institutions and ministries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miikka Toivonen<\/strong> from Southwest Finland Emergency Services<\/strong> is also pleased with the webinar:  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were able to organize an interesting and fruitful event. The topics were well chosen, and the webinar presented different actors working in oil spill response and how their internal and external communication works. I think it highlights that cooperation between various actors is needed and should be strengthened in all levels in large-scale incidents and accidents.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
