Culture at Work. An ethnographic study on gig work and creativity in the post-pandemic Finland
This research project scrutinizes cultural practices and creativity among the people who get their living from gig work. In this research, without diminishing the problems of gig economy, gig workers are seen as creative, inventive and adaptive agents who navigate untypical work. Our key question is how do diverse people experience gig work in the post-pandemic Finland? Furthermore, we examine the role of creativity in the working lives of self-employed people.
The project uses ethnographic methods (photovoice and participatory observation) to study gig work and the platform economy in Finland in the early 2020s.
The research is funded by the Kone Foundation and the University of Turku.
