The symposium will take place at the premises of the University of Turku, building Publicum (street address, for taxis and car navigators is Assistentinkatu 7).
The map below shows the symposium venue (Publicum), the dinner party restaurant (Hus Lindman), the city hall (where the reception is held), the bus and railway stations, and the hotels. It also shows a nice walking route from the most central hotels to Publicum (the Cathedral is a good landmark half way there. From the cathedral, walk the street Piispankatu towards Publicum).
To make sure you find there easily on Wednesday morning, join the group that gathers at Hamburger Börs entrance at 10:30 and walks to the venue with a local guide. (How to find Hamburger Börs: it’s the biggest hotel and situated at the corner of the central market square. It’s a 3-minute walk from Scandic Julia. When in doubt, ask: everyone in Turku knows where “Pörssi” is.)
If you want to explore the city, we suggest starting with a walk by the river Aura to the city ferry Föri that travels across the river (ride taking less than 2 minutes, free of charge).
Also note that Finland is in the Eastern European Time Zone EET (UCT +2).
Travel and getting around Turku
Turku (Åbo) is Finland’s oldest city and the first capital city, located by the River Aurajoki in Southwest Finland and pulsing with life in the summer. Cruise ships sail daily from Turku Harbour to Stockholm and back. There are international flights arriving directly to Turku. Alternatively, one can arrive at Helsinki-Vantaa airport and continue to Turku by bus. (On the Helsinki-Vantaa–Turku bus route, one often needs to change buses in Espoo, but the change is very smooth and the bus drivers take care of everything.)
Find information on travelling to Turku and getting around the city here. A taxi ride between the conference venue and Turku airport takes about 15 minutes.
