The situation with covid-19 is changing constantly. Due to current regulations, our face to face seminars are postponed to Autumn 2020. We are rearranging the calendar with the companies accordingly. I will let you know this information once days are confirmed.
However, some of you would like to have a seminar session before the academic year 2019 -2020 finalizes. Hence, this seminar session”Making sense of complexity” is for this extraordinary time. This session has 3 stages described below.
STAGE 1.

REPORT SECTION I:
From his talk, please answer the following questions:

- What aspects would you consider to analyze when supporting an organization to be innovative?
SECTION II: Select a company for this session to reflect how covid-19 has affected
We do not have a specific guest company, but you can select from the following type of industries one company where you have contacts or where you are a customer
- Manufacturing
- Hospitality Industry
- Service Industry
- Education
- Procurement system
REPORT SECTION II:
- What is the name of the company you selected?
- What is the address of the company? In case to have a website please include its website:
- What does this company do? Whose needs does this company address?
- How many people does this company employ? (if you do not have the figure, try to contact them to get this information)
- How old is the company?
- Today organizations experience many challenges due to covid-19 pandemic. From the company you choose, select one of its challenges triggered by covid-19 that can be addressed with a technological innovation. Describe this challenge in detail.
A technological innovation should have an impact and it might be replicated in other companies within the same industry sector, for example:
- Propose data collection related to health of employees and customers while being at the workplace. How can data and technology help this particular company to overcome current challenges of covid-19, and contribute to the understanding and mitigation of any pandemic? Is it possible that this data can be linked with national containment and epidemic control?
- How to prepare companies’ infrastructure to offer early warning systems through their digital ecosystem about the safety of the physical space in relation to disease outbreaks or sanitary crises? And how to protect their operations across different stages of the crisis? This can include: collaborative systems, measurement technology, security, etc.
SECTION III: Think about a solution for the company you selected.
Sketch a solution for the problem you selected from the company you chose. During this process apply what you learn from Dave Snowden and if possible, talk with other peers or people you know of the company or other customers.
REPORT SECTION III:
- Mention to whom did you speak in reference to sketch your solution.
- Describe the technological solution offered for the company. Please include complementary information to improve the clarity of the concept you are describing, e.g. research publications of the technologies involved in your innovation, weblinks to prototypes, sketches, etc.
- Describe the business pivot or adaptation, include what contextual aspects were taken into account.
- Describe the impact of the solution you propose within the world.
- What kind of stakeholders and partnerships are needed to pursue this solution?
SUBMISSION STAGE 1
- Submit a report answering the 13 questions of STAGE 1.
- Maximum number of pages per report is 10 pages. Keep in mind that the report will be read by other course participants.

STAGE 2.
All submissions received from STAGE 1 will be shuffled and distributed to the session participants on Monday 25 of May at 8 am. Hence each one of you will receive an anonymous report.
In this stage, your task is to enrich the proposed solution. Remember the talk from Dave Snowden, we want to see diverse approaches to the same problem. Hence answer the following questions in relationship to the report you are reviewing:
- How can the solution be improved? Or what other approach can be taken?
- Describe the impact of the solution you propose within the world.
SUBMISSION STAGE 2
- Submit a report answering the questions 14 and 15.

STAGE 3.
On May 28, the new ideas submitted on May 27 are given to the original authors of STAGE 1 for their review.
An online session discussing the outcomes of this session will take place on Friday May 29th from 12 to 13hrs. Instructions for the online meeting will be sent via email on May 28th.
