About

Welcome!

Through this website we want to share an effort that University of Turku through Future Technologies Department is allocating to promote the growth of the local industry.  We develop two courses under the FiTech project with the aim to promote discovery, connection and collaboration within academia and between academia and industry.  The purpose of this website is two fold:  (i) to  serve as an invitation to the community to join our efforts in these two courses and (ii)  as a coordination medium for those who want to participate in these courses and seminars.

1. Industrial Seminar on Future Technologies

This course is versatile and has a nontraditional approach. The course aims to expose participants to the challenges and vision of the local industry.  Each seminar session is lead by a guest industry who shares its  visions or challenges with the participants.  The process for each seminar session is as follows:

  • Before the seminar:  participants prepare themselves before the session according to the material offered and submit a pre-assigment.
  • During the seminar, participants work in teams to address a challenge, as in a “mini-capstone” approach.  The session duration is approx. 4 hrs per guest company.
  • After the session, students submit their personal reflection of the session in an post-assignment according to the guidelines.

This course grants 5 ECTS to those students who participated in  6 seminars, and submit their pre- and post assignments.   The enrollment is open for each seminar, so you can join this course at any moment during the academic year.  We are welcoming constantly students who have the willingness to be exposed to this learning approach!   This seminar takes place once per month as we are contacting companies constantly, and we need to coordinate with them before the seminar.

NOTE:  This is a mandatory course for those students enrolled in  FiTech minor: Inudstrial ICT

2. Technology Phenomena in Context

The main aim to this course is to build the foundations for bridging the participant’s knowledge in engineering or computer science with our digital economy.  To achieve this goal, we need to understand the context where our development efforts are located and the different stakeholders that are involved in this process.  To enrich the information of this course it is offered in collaboration of outstanding researchers from Tuku Business School and Future Technologies department. Additionally, we have experts from industry to offer their insights on how the world is evolving outside of the university.  If you are interested to be part of this course, remember to enroll to it!

NOTE:  This is a mandatory course for those students enrolled in FiTech minor:  Co-reation and platform economy

Due to the innovative approach of these two courses we need a virtual space to coordinate and share our efforts. This is one of the functions of this website. So, remember if you have any question just contact us!

We are looking forward that this effort benefits as many students as possible as well as to support the growth of the region,
