Here for a healthier humankind.

Revvity is a newly independent, science-driven company that delivers advanced instruments, reagents, software, and clinical solutions in life sciences and diagnostics. Its mission is to accelerate research and improve health through cutting-edge technology and comprehensive workflow integration. At Revvity, “it can’t be done” is our call to act, and “impossible” is inspiration. We take on the world’s toughest health challenges, so that we can help people live better, healthier lives. No fear. No barriers. No limits.

Revvity’s Turku Site is the center of excellence for Reproductive Health products. In Finland we are mainly known by name Wallac Oy, which is still the name of our local Finnish company. Our product portfolio covers both prenatal and neonatal screening products, as well as products for DNA and RNA extraction and viral detection. We manufacture complete system solutions, meaning we have reagent manufacturing, instrument assembly and software development all under one roof at Turku. In addition to manufacturing, we have an extensive R&D team working at the same factory, who design both reagents and instruments.

Prenatal products are used for screening before birth, and we offer products for both maternal and fetal health. Maternal health products are mainly used for detection of pre-eclampsia, and fetal health products for detection of chromosomal abnormalities of fetus (e.g. Down syndrome).

Neonatal products are used for screening rare diseases after the baby’s birth. We offer various solutions, but mainly the screened diseases are metabolic disorders, which can be cured easily. An example of a screened disease is PKU (Phenylketonuria). PKU is a genetic disorder which can cause several developmental disturbances if not detected early enough and treated right. Luckily, the treatment is easy; people who have PKU just must avoid eating or drinking phenylalanine for the rest of their life and they will not get any kind of symptoms. This means that they cannot, for example, drink Coca-Cola Zero.

Logistics is a crucial part of our business. We have over 400,000 products shipped annually from Turku Site. Our products are shipped all over the world using mainly air freight, as most of the reagent products need to be shipped cold (e.g. on dry ice) and they have rather short shelf lives (i.e. expiry dates). Instruments and reagents, which can be shipped at ambient temperatures, are also transported via sea freight.

As our main customers are healthcare professionals like hospitals and private clinics, it is crucial for us to get our products, both the reagents and instruments, delivered to our customers on time. Someone’s life may depend on it.

2. SEMINAR’S FOCUS

This seminar explores a forward-thinking approach to detecting and interpreting the connections between data and events in the context of transporting materials, like reagents and instruments, all over the world. The focus is on developing innovative methods to monitor logistics systems, which makes predicting disruptions in supply chains caused by natural or human-made factors easier. By understanding these relationships, participants will learn strategies to proactively mitigate risks and enhance the resilience of supply chains.

4. CHALLENGE:

Description of the challenge

The world is in the middle of a large change. Global politics, digitalization, and climate change are reshaping supply chains in significant ways. In this evolving landscape, we must be able to predict disruptions so we can avoid shipment delays and interruptions. Predictability depends on our ability to leverage vast amounts of data. The key question is: how can we effectively collect, manage, and utilize this data to stay ahead of disruptions?

The challenge is to conceptualize an innovative method to detect and predict supply chain disruptions, so us at Revvity can work our way around them and get products delivered to our customers on time in a cost-efficient manner.

Why this is important

Improving our ability to predict disruptions is critical. Given that our products play a vital role in the screening of potentially life-threatening diseases, delivery reliability cannot be compromised. To maintain customer satisfaction and manage costs effectively, we must adopt proactive solutions that enhance operational foresight and responsiveness.

What is the current problem

Supply chain disruptions are rarely caused by a single issue. We have too many variables in the equation, which creates unpredictability and risk in material deliveries. Without a clear method of detecting and anticipating these issues, ensuring timely and cost-efficient delivery becomes increasingly difficult.

What are the benefits

The benefits are stronger risk management by proactively identifying and addressing potential disruptions, improved customer satisfaction through more reliable deliveries, and reduced costs by increasing operational efficiency.
