New Plans for Vellamo Oil Spill Response Exercise (3–8 May 2021)

Vellamo 2020 was initially planned as the largest oil spill response exercise ever organized in Southwest Finland. One part of it would have been an international OIL SPILL live exercise gathering all our Project Partners to collaborate in Finland. However, due to the pandemic, Vellamo 2020 first became Vellamo 2021, and now the plans concerning the live exercise have been successfully transformed into a smaller-scale event and online activities.

The focus of Vellamo 2021 is still on oil spill response, requesting international assistance, and cooperation with international and voluntary actors in the case of a large-scale oil spill. Vellamo 2021 will provide the participants with an excellent opportunity to practice their oil spill response procedures and skills and increase international and inter-organizational cooperation.
