Deciding where to pursue a master’s degree is an important decision that shapes one’s academic and professional future. I have always aspired to pursue my higher education in a country known for its high standards of education. When I came to Finland on a work visa, I realised that furthering my studies at a university would help me gain a deeper understanding of the country and its culture.
While researching, I discovered several master’s programmes that intrigued me, prompting me to apply to five universities in Finland. Ultimately, the University of Turku (UTU) stood out as the best choice. Here, I would like to share the reasons behind my decision to choose UTU for my master’s studies and why I believe it is the ideal place to continue my academic journey.
When I began my search for a master’s programme, I was fortunate to receive offers from several prestigious universities in Finland. However, UTU stood out to me for several compelling reasons which ultimately led me to choose it for my higher education. The programme’s focus on future-oriented thinking and its multidisciplinary approach fascinated me, promising to equip me with the skills and knowledge needed to anticipate and shape future developments in various fields.

When I applied, accommodation options were readily available. I was particularly impressed with the student housing provided by Turku Student Village Foundation (TYS), which had garnered positive reviews from students. Knowing that housing in Turku was both accessible and well-regarded lifted a significant weight from my shoulders.
6. Before making my final decision, I conducted a thorough comparison of the ambassador programmes at various universities. UTU’s ambassador programme stood out as well-organized and effective. I have always wanted to represent my university and contribute to its community, and UTU’s programme offers a fantastic platform to do just that. The programme is well-structured, providing international students like myself with numerous opportunities to engage and promote the university.
