When I first moved to Finland in August 2017, I had just begun a serious relationship. The decision to continue on my journey towards a master’s degree in East Asian Studies  at the University of Turku, rather than staying back home to help nurture a relationship was a tough one, and I do not recommend it for those weak of heart. Is a master´s degree worthy of a long distance relationship?

27-31 August 2018 and 11-24 February 2019

One of the benefits of participating in my program on East Asian Studies at the University of Turku’s Center for East Asian Studies is the ability to apply for different summer schools, internships, research trips, and seminars abroad. During my time at UTU, I have had the privilege of attending the St. Petersburg Summer School and going to NIAS, the Nordic Institute for Asian Studies, in Copenhagen, Denmark for a two-week thesis writing research scholarship program.

Why did I choose to come to the University of Turku, Finland?

When asked why I came to Turku, the first thing that pops into my head is “I chose Finland, but Turku chose me,” which in a way makes my coming to Turku and Finland all the sweeter.
