-Marko Ahteensuu presented ”Biosecurity of Synthetic Biology and Genome Editing”, at the 3rd Nordic Chapter Conference Risk and Security, Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) Nordic Chapter, Aalto University, Espoo, Finland, 2-3.11.2017.

-Polaris Koi was awarded the Best Presentation Award for his presentation on self-control neuroenhancements in criminal rehabilitation at the Seminar on Technology Ethics 2017, organized by TIVIA and the Future Ethics group at the Turku School of Economics.

-Polaris Koi presented on ADHD and the concept of self-control at the 2017 European Society for Philosophy and Psychology conference, University of Hertfordshire.

-Polaris Koi is Junior Investigator in the international interdisciplinary research project Genetics and Human Agency, led by Eric Turkheimer and funded by John Templeton Foundation.

-A paper on self-control neuroenhancements in criminal rehabilitation authored by Polaris Koi, Susanne Uusitalo and Jarno Tuominen was published Online First (2017) in Criminal Law and Philosophy.

-October 2016, Center for the Study of Bioethics participated in organizing the 11th  Gay, Lesbian and Queer Studies Research Seminar at University of Turku, under the theme Queer Healings. The main organizer Society for Queer Studies in Finland’s journal will feature a special issue on Queer Healings co-edited by Tiia Sudenkaarne. You can browse the publication here. -Participant (Juha Räikkä) in the  Refiguring Privacy project.

-Participant (Juha Räikkä) in an international interdisciplinary research project Globalizing Minority Rights (GMR, 2016-2020), which is funded by The Research Council of Norway. One project theme is concerned with the living conditions of Arctic areas.

-Participant (Juha Räikkä) in a transnational cooperation and research project Comparative Analysis of Conspiracy Theories (COMPACT). The project themes include, for example, GMO conspiracies and reasons for opposition to vaccines.

-A chapter on ethical and legal rules of the game in genome editing authored by Marko Ahteensuu was published as part of a book, Kiehtovat geenit: mihin geenitietoa käytetään? (2017), on genes and genetechnology published in Finnish by the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim.

-A book, Ihmisen epätäydellisyydestä ja muita kirjoituksia (2017), in Finnish written by Juha Räikkä was published by UniPress. Several chapters discuss bioethical issues.

-Marko Ahteensuu presented his work on genome editing and species conservation aims at an international conference, Genome Editing: Biomedical and Ethical Perspectives, Belgrade, Serbia, 20.-21.8.2017.

-Marko Ahteensuu presented his work on genome editing outside institutional contexts at an international conference, 31st Conference of the European Society for Philosophy of Medicine and Health Care, Belgrade, Serbia, 16.-19.8.2017.

-Tiia Sudenkaarne presented at Oxford Global Health and Bioethics conference organized by University of Oxford Ethox July 17, 2017. Her title was A Womb of One’s Own? Feminist and Queer Bioethical Inquiries into Justice and Vulnerability in Surrogacy.

-Tiia Sudenkaarne presented on an invitation- only panel at the XXXVth International Congress on Law and Mental Health held at Charles University July 14, 2017. The conference featured a panel on LGBT bioethics for the first time in its history.

-A popular text on research ethics authored by Helena Siipi was publish at the blog of the University of Turku 18.4.2017.

-Helena Siipi presented her work on undocumented migrants’ access to health care from the perspective of theories of ethics at an international conference, UNESCO Chair in Bioethics 12th World Conference: Bioethics, medical ethics and health law. Limassol, Cyprus. 21. – 23.3.2017.

-Tiia Sudenkaarne presented at Oxford Uehiro Graduate Student Conference in University of Hawaii Manoa March 16, 2017, on feminist and queer bioethical entanglements.

-A paper on biosecurity of synthetic biology and genome editing authored by Marko Ahteensuu was published as online first (2017) in Science and Engineering Ethics.

-A co-authored (Hällfors, M.H., Vaara, E.M., Ahteensuu, M., Kokko, K., Oksanen, M. & Schulman, L.E.) encyclopedia article on assisted migration as a conservation approach under climate change was published online in Elsevier’s Encyclopedia of the Anthropocene (2017).

-A co-authored (Räikkä, J. & Ahteensuu, M.) paper on forgiveness, tolerance, and genetic Enhancement was published in Ethics, Medicine and Public Health (2016).
