Our last seminar session of the academic year (2022-2023) was at Lojer Group. The focus of our session was to reflect upon the hospital beds of the future, including thinking about the complete life cycle of a hospital bed.  For this session we visited the Lojer’s plant in Sastamala. 😊

The session had a wonderful composition of participants from Turun yliopisto – University of Turku with representatives from the research group of Digital Health Technology, as well as from Nurse School and the University Hospital, in addition to other students from the Faculty of Technology and Future Studies.

During this session we gained awareness of the diversity of needs and flexibility that the health industry requires in order to offer the suitable tools to their customers, with a particular focus on the beds.  It might sound simple, but it is not. Simultaneously, we reflected upon the importance of assure the quality of the products and fulfilling the guidelines and regulations of the EU. The health and wellbeing of each patient is of utmost importance, as well as to offer the needed support to the health care providers.

For the reasong give above, to ideate for this domain is challenging. However, when we have the possibility to ideate with people from different backgrounds and expertise is of great opportunity. Furthermore, linking research and industry always offers a new perspective and enriches the knoweldge of all participants. As a special treat, was to visit the plant that produces a diversity of hospital beds. What a clean and interesting production plant!

I want to thank all the participants of this session for your contribution, also to the members of Lojer, in particular Repe Mäensivu who supported us in the whole process. Also To Professor Pasi Liljeberg who supported us by linking the session with the relevant stakeholders at the Turun yliopisto – University of Turku , Jorma Turunen who connected us with Lojer.

Each session, unquestionably, is a team work. It is together that we will keep supporting the leadership of the Finnish industry.
