A Colombian in Finnish Wonderland –The story of how Laura became a tutor for international students–

Laura Moreno from Colombia first wanted to pursue a PhD, but later decided to apply for several Master’s Degree programmes instead. She came to Finland in 2018 after she got accepted into the then entirely new programme called Master’s Degree Programme Human Neuroscience, which is an intersection between psychology, medicine, biology and even pharmacology. In her second year of studies Laura decided to become a tutor and help the next generation of students acclimate to the new environment. Find out what was the reason behind her decision and why is the role of a tutor so important.

When plans change – How 2 years in Turku turned into 7 (and counting…)

Kalypso Filippou is originally from Cyprus and has spent the past 7 years studying and working at the University of Turku. She first moved to Finland back in 2012 to pursue a Master’s Degree in Education and Learning (previously known as Master’s Degree Programme in Learning, Learning Environments and Educational Systems). Back then, she thought that she will pursue and complete her studies in 2 years, and then she will return back to her home country. Life, however, turned out quite differently! She has recently graduated from the Doctoral Programme on Educational Policy, Lifelong Learning and Comparative Education Research (also known as KEVEKO) and is now teaching at the Faculty of Education.

Siblings pursuing their academic careers at the University of Turku

Siblings Ali and Alaa Benkherouf from Algeria have decided to pursue their academic careers in Finland, at the University of Turku. Ali is currently a second year PhD student of the Drug Research Doctoral Programme (DRDP) and Alaa has just started her Master’s Degree Programme in Biomedical Imaging (BIMA) this year.
