- SEMINAR’s focus
The creation of meaningful experiences for Scandic’ guests, by utilizing digital technology, to invite them to be active stakeholders in the sustainability efforts during their stay at the hotel.
- DESCRIPTION
Scandic is the largest Nordic hotel operator with a network of about 280 hotels with 58,000 hotel rooms in operation and under development in six countries. Scandic Friends is the biggest loyalty program in the Nordic hotel sector. Corporate responsibility has always been a part of Scandic´ s DNA. Since December 2, 2015, Scandic has been listed on Nasdaq Stockholm. Scandic has about 19,000 employees who go to work every day with one goal in mind: to create fantastic hotel experiences that make guests want to return.
- CHALLENGE
In general, green consumption refers to using environment-friendly products/services that lessens harmful impacts on the environmental resources (Won Shin & Kang, 2021). With the increasing interest and need in green consumption, travelers’ interests in green traveling such as ecotourism or green lodging are steadily increasing (Rahman & Reynolds, 2016) .
Scandic Group, since 1997, has a serious focus on sustainability, by taking the lead of implementing green practices within their operation (https://www.scandichotelsgroup.com/sustainability/ ). The efforts include the creation of products and practices to support and encourage saving energy, recycling, reducing water consumption among others.
However today Scandic Group realizes the importance of going one step forward in their new product of EcoStay . Within the current visions, Scandic wants to transmit the sustainability experience to its visitors and make them active players of a collective effort to build a more sustainable world. Scandic wants to have an active dialogue with its visitors while they are at their hotels. Hence a question is: how to use the digital technology to offer a rich message, create an experience and simultaneously respect the privacy of each guest.
The challenge of this session is for anyone interested in traveling and sustainability. How would you be interested that your hosts involve you in their sustainability efforts? How would you like to be informed? How would you like to participate? What information is relevant?
In this session we will:
- Understand the different sustainability efforts made by Scandic Group
- Find ideas on how to open a meaningful dialogue with Scandic visitors in relationship to sustainability Gain an understanding on how promote sustainable experiences as a Scandic guest
- Explore how to share information related to sustainability to Scandic customers (e.g. why Scandic is interested in sustainability, how do they measure sustainability)
- Recognize how it can be economically smart to follow a sustainable path for local communities.
