As tutors, it is our job to help new
incoming students (both exchange and degree) with practical matters when
settling in. That includes assisting new students to adapt to the Finnish
culture, giving insights about how Finnish educational system works, sharing
our experiences about student life, familiarising them with UTU campus and,
most importantly, serving as a contact person whenever help may be needed
(especially during the first months). And the list goes on and on, depending on
how active you are and how much help your tutees may need.

Kalypso Filippou is originally from Cyprus and has
spent the past 7 years studying and working at the University of Turku. She
first moved to Finland back in 2012 to pursue a Master’s Degree in Education and Learning (previously known as Master’s Degree Programme in Learning,
Learning Environments and Educational Systems). Back then, she thought that she
will pursue and complete her studies in 2 years, and then she will return back
to her home country. Life, however, turned out quite differently! She has
recently graduated from the Doctoral Programme on Educational Policy, Lifelong
Learning and Comparative Education Research (also known as KEVEKO) and is now teaching at the
Faculty of Education.
This time you get the story of siblings Ali and Alaa Benkherouf in Bahasa.

I was recently fortunate enough to attend EU Careers Ambassadors conference in Brussels, the capital of Belgium and the center of European politics. Brussels is home to the EU’s most important institutions, such as the European Commission, European Council and European Parliament. Sadly, this time my schedule was fully booked, so I was unable to visit these famous places. However, it is safe to say that I enjoyed my time in Brussels very much and hence I am looking forward to visiting Brussels soon again.

Now that the new academic year has begun, life at UTU campus is busier than ever. The city of Turku is full of students and there are different events happening every single day. In fact, summer was quite the opposite: it was very quiet, and streets of Turku seemed empty, as most students had returned to their home countries, travelled or worked somewhere other than Turku. During the last days of August, from 28.-29.8., I was hosting guests from Rīga Stradiņš University Student Union. What a fun and learning experience that was! They traveled all the way from Latvia to come and visit members of the Student Union of the University of Turku.

Last week UTU Ambassadors were invited to an event called “Get-together for Student Ambassadors”. The event took place in Restaurant E. Ekblom, close to the city center and right next to the Aura River. The program of this get-together included presentations about different programs and activities happening in the region of Turku, insights into future events, discussions, networking and mingling around the buffet.
Hi everyone, welcome to my first blog post! My name is Jonathon and I’m a first year student on the Master’s Degree Programme in Futures Studies. I’m really excited to join the ambassador programme and tell you a little bit about my experiences at UTU! Continue reading
