Formulation of SOPs, E-learning Material and Chemical Data Bank – Partner Meeting in Tallinn

ChemSAR partners gathered together 4th-5th April in the sunny Tallinn to advance the work of Work Packages. The project is in a state, where the background research and surveys have been done and now it is time for a final formulation of the SOP’s, the e-learning material and the chemical data bank.

After a brief overview of the project and the current situation of all work packages, the participants worked in smaller groups.

WP2 needed to decide on the final formulation of the Standard operational procedures. WP2 leader Teemu Niemelä pointed out, that the main problem to challenge within ChemSAR will be to figure out how people can be rescued from board from a distressed vessel where you have a potential HNS area around the distressed vessel and where your normal SAR-SOP cannot be used because there is a dangerous zone around the distressed vessel. The drafts of the OPs and SOPs had been sent to partners in March, and the work continued in the workshop.

WP3 was finalizing the form of the e-learning materials. Sari Nyroos and Johanna Salokannel presented  the draft e-learning material concept and topical questions. Glossary of terms sections is suggested to be added in the platfrom; i.e. terms and definitions (e.g., SOP, Hot/Warm/Cold Zone, No-go area) are to be agreed upon together with all partners to enable the use of uniform terminology throughout different WP activities and outputs.

WP4 was forming and finalizing general and technical requirements for the chemical data bank concept. Background report is finalized – outcome was that the HNS information is fragmented and there is a clear need for harmonisation. WP4 leader  will produce the first draft of the databank concept based on the background report & other information, It will be further developed after partners’ comments.

WP5’s first tabletop exercise of coming closer and the goal for the meeting was to confirm the plan of the exercise. The tabletop exercise will take place on 6th-8th June in Tallinn.

After the meeting we had the change to visit the Estonian Maritime Museum, Lennusadam Seaplane Harbour, which was fantastic. We recommend you visit there, if you are in Tallinn! The museum hosted an exhibition Mayday. Mayday. Mayday., which is a hands-on exhibition with life-sized exhibits that gave us a true experience of the exciting world of sea rescue!
