Making and Interpreting Finnish National Past
The interests in the research project are related to the relationships between history and the cultural heritage, the respective use of power and networks of persons involved. The key concepts include networks of power, and sites of memory.
The objective is to study the actors in the archives field, looking at their choices from the 19th century till the present day. The major challenge is to explain the contradictions between the different interpretations. The purpose is to produce new information about the complex reality, shedding light on the cultural phenomena related to the archives. This can be crystallized in the following questions:
- Whose history has been recorded and is worth recording?
- How and on what criteria have the recorded materials been and are chosen?
- Whose materials or phenomena have been or will be ignored or forgotten?
- In what way are the materials accessible to scholars and researchers?
