The Geographical Society of Turku was founded in 17th of March 1961. Founding members were at the time 46. Assisting professor Olavi Granö was the fist chairman of the board. In 2011 the GST was celebrating its 50 year journey.
The Society has strong traditions as a bonding factor of geographers and geographically minded people in Turku and surrounding areas. The Society has hosted numerous presentations over the years and organised field trips in different geographically interesting locations. You can find pictures of different events in the archives (arkisto). From 2006 onwards the society has also been organising development cooperation projects (KIWA, LIVE, SUFO, KIPPO).
Upcoming activities are announced usually in the finnish events list (toiminta ja tapahtumat) but also in the news on the front page. You can also get quick updates from our facebook page.
